Workshop Overview

Come to Mulranny to experience, experiment with and explore different varieties, formulas and brands of base metal clays.
During each of the three days there will be a main focus with accompanying demos ,ideas, directions and instruction. You will be able to work at your own pace and level of creativity so that you can develop skills and work on techniques that are most relevant to you.
You will learn about the properties , uses and applications of each of the clays, how to use, finish, fire and polish each variety and make.
There promises to be many delights and unusual ideas along the way in this exciting journey.

Day One
You could be surprised at the results, properties, potential and versatility in the myriad of techniques you can use on these clays. Let us play together, experiment and come up with even more ways these clays can be used. There will be many different makes, brands and types of clay on offer for you to have experience of and to try out. We will also make some pieces to be fired that we will be using in different ways on day three.

Day Two
We will consider colours, patinas and polishing techniques today but our main focus will be using copper and bronze clay together in the same piece for a variety of purposes , uses and effects. Some pieces will be fired and possibly used on day three

Day Three
The focus of the day will be the use of natural objects as formers and textures. We will explore in a variety of different applications and unusual ways of using them. There will be an overnight firing on each of the days as well as instructions on safe transport of green ware for those who make larger pieces or quantities of work

Some base metal clays can be tricky to use and fire but are great fun to experiment on, be creative with and practice techniques. Some amazing finishes and results can be achieved but they can also be a way of building your skills instead of using comparatively more expensive silver clays.
