Workshop Overview
Join artist and eco therapist Caroline Schofield for a two-day workshop creating a series of evocative images based on the intertidal areas below Mulranny Arts Studio. As our inspiration we have the beautiful salt marshes, the Rosmurrevagh Machair and Mulranny storm beach with views of Croagh Patrick.
During this mixed media workshop, we will make the most of being in this stunning landscape, spending as much time outdoors as the weather allows and time in the studio bringing work together. Caroline will support people to really wind-down and allow themselves to fully connect with the beauty around them, the elemental experience and abundant nature. The images we create will arise from a deeply attentive practice of observation and sensory connection, based on an emotive response to being in/with this place.
In order to strive towards an environmentally sensitive arts practice, we will use a variety of natural tools and materials. We will find, create and use simple natural mark making tools, alongside inks and water-based paints from natural pigments, and gouache.
Caroline will share various techniques and methods she uses; she tends to an organic, playful and experimental style of working that lets the materials speak and mirrors the qualities the place. This way of working is fun, its accessible for complete beginners, great for artists who want to loosen up and appealing people who already enjoy this way of working and love being outdoors.
By the end of the two days, everyone will have created a series of images on heavy weight paper, there will be time to work into selected images and make these into personalised artists books. There will also be option to create a standalone finished piece of artwork which can be taken home to be framed and displayed.
A moderate level of mobility is needed for this workshop, plus the ability carry a lightweight camping chair/or to sit on the ground on a mat and to carry some art materials in a backpack. The walk from the arts centre to the causeway is approximately 20 minutes.. We will go outdoors whatever the weather, so long as the weather allows we will make image outdoors to work on in the studio. If it is very wet we will still spend time outdoors but take our experience and inspiration back to studio to create our images.

About Caroline Schofield
Caroline’s deep love of the natural world has been with her since childhood. While studying to qualify as an Eco-psychology Practitioner, she came to understand the connections between the wellbeing of the natural world and her professional career in mental health services. After graduating, she combined her interpersonal skills and passion for being in close connection with the natural world with the desire to serve others.
Caroline loves to be creative and can often be found outdoors with sketchbooks and notepads with nature as her muse. In her work at Guided By Nature, she offers her skills as a group facilitator, her knowledge of eco-psychology, and her artistic ability to provide opportunities for nature-loving people to come together to experience enjoyable, nourishing and meaningful time with nature.
Caroline is a co-founder of Dilyn Natur Guided by Nature, a woman-owned community interest company (CIC) based in beautiful North Wales – Goggled Cymru. They offer walks, workshops, bespoke mountain days, continuing professional development (CPD), workplace wellness events and other services for organisations. Their aim is for everyone they work with to feel great, have adventures, get creative, build their skills and discover special places.
We are delighted to welcome Caroline to Mulranny Arts and we look forward to working with her
