Workshop Overview
Today, when we refer to drawing, we most often understand it in terms of art making, thinking of its functions either as a preliminary sketch or a work of art in and of itself. But, in the past, especially before the digital tools that make image making so easy today, drawing was a fundamental skill that helped us communicate and express ourselves. This course embraces that expanded understanding of drawing as a form of art and non-verbal communication. We will use pens and paper - the most basic and accessible tools and materials. The challenge and opportunity in using a pen is that the ink does not easily erase. A mark once made is permanent; it must be considered and dealt with. Therefore, we will not strive for perfection in life-like representation, even though we will begin with exercises based on observational drawing. Instead, the goal of the course is to help the participants develop specific drawing skills, confidence in mark making, and comfort with ‘mistakes’ that could lead to their understanding as ‘opportunities.’ (Please note this is not a Calligraphy class - Minimum Age Limit is 14)
Materials
Materials will be supplied, however, participants are welcome to bring their own - Fountain or Dipped Pens only (no felt tips or markers) - Any good Drawing Paper, e.g. Bristol Board Paper Pad or any bound paper pads with good quality drawing paper.
