Class Description
If you've ever noticed how two disconnected objects have something in common, you have the eye for found object art. I'm always looking at things, thinking about how they could be something else, and this curiosity has led me to journeys of seeing new possibilities in the common, the overlooked, and the discarded. I love "upcycling" or taking things like this and creating delight out of the surprise that comes from these objects and almost exclusively work with natural materials or waste materials to create my art.
In this workshop, we'll work with paper, fabric, corrugated cardboard and other textural materials to create collages, finished and ready to hang. I will encourage you to reference memories, feelings, and events through your workshop, which enriches and intensifies your artwork. We'll talk about these objects both individually and as a group. Over the course of two days we can use our own materials, and go out to harvest more from the Art Center's incredible landscape.
Each participant will have two 30cm x 30cm (12" x 12") panels for their work.
The Art Center will supply adhesives and fasteners, and technical assistance as needed.
Each participant may bring objects or paints of their own. Shared found objects will also be available.
I'll bring some elements, and of course you are free to bring your own!
I will introduce you to botanical inks that I'm exploring as a result of a previous Mulranny Arts workshop! Their nature is completely different from store-bought pigments.
I can show you some techniques for assembling and displaying your work, and you may complete the class with two unique original works of your own.
You may begin with an idea in mind or one may come to you during the workshop. We expect to harvest materials from around the Art Center during the workshop, and over the course of the two days have conversations about how art shifts the meanings of objects in unexpected ways. You'll complete the course with two 2d found object works, ready to hang.
This class is ideal for beginners who have little experience in a formal art studio and wish to explore this medium. Bring a Notebook & Pen!
Onsite Accommodation available if required. Please phone (087 9208829) or email us for more details and to book. (info@mulrannyarts.com)
