Class Description
Everyone works on a small mosaic piece. We mostly work with colourful glass and ceramic mosaic tiles. Students will learn how to cut and shape the tiles, draw and trace an image then fill in the area with suggestions on composition, colours and other ideas about where the piece may finally hang or fixed to a surface. With many more tips about adhesives,tools and grouting etc. along the way!
We start the course with the idea that everyone is new to mosaic and every detail from cutting to equipment is explained. We have our own unique style that we have developed over the last 20 years.
Mosaic is a very fun meditative art/craft and seems to appeal to everyone! In fact people often find it much easier to join our mosaic class than a traditional art class and over the years we have found mosaic to be a great help in removing creative blocks!
At the end of the course each student will have a new skill that has practical applications for the home/garden/community and of course they will have a beautiful piece of art to take home!
Barbara Ann Murray
Barbara Ann Murray studied Fine Art and Design in GMIT qualifying with a diploma in 1998. Over the years she has had many exhibitions both group and solo with her paintings. She worked as a photographer for many years and ran her own photography studio. While in Australia a local lady introduced her to mosaic using broken tiles. On her return to Ireland she started making mosaic wall hangings and commissioned Mosaics both solo and with her artist sister Leesa Murray. They have appeared on RTE’s Nationwide showcasing their mosaics works.
Barbara and her sister have given many beginner mosaic classes over the years, sharing their own unique style that they developed through trial and error.

Leesa Murray
Leesa, Barbara’s sister, is an artist based in Westport Co. Mayo. She was first introduced to mosaic over twenty years ago, by her sister Barbara, with whom she has a credible portfolio.
Since then, she has experimented with other art forms, namely crafting bespoke jewellery from recycled bike tyres and other recycled materials. Leesa subsequently launched her own sustainable jewellery business in 2018 and continues to create unique pieces that take inspiration from the beauty of the nature that surrounds her everyday in Mayo.
When Leesa is not in the workshop, she loves teaching mosaic and other mixed media craft classes. She particularly enjoys finding new and different materials to create her art with.
