About The Class:
Add a burst of creativity this November and elevate your glass fusing skills with acclaimed glass artist Opal Seabrook! In this dynamic three-day course, you’ll explore how to create vibrant, graphic, 3D framed artworks in fused glass.
Opal will share the unique techniques she has honed over a decade of artistic practice—methods that have shaped her distinctive style. This popular class has received enthusiastic feedback, and we’re thrilled to welcome Opal to Mulranny Arts for the first time.
From concept to completion, Opal will guide you every step of the way. You’ll begin by cutting your designs from Spectrum and Bullseye glass sheets using both hand tools and a Taurus ring saw.
Then, discover how to add shading and intricate detail with enamel techniques, including airbrushing. Your pieces will be kiln-fired at least once before the final stage, when you’ll bring everything together to assemble your layered 3D masterpiece. Prepare for a creative explosion—Kapow!
Workshop Schedule
-
Bring your ideas to life on paper!
Once you’re happy with your design, we will dissect and draw out each layer to produce card stencils to work out the positioning and 3D affectability and give an idea of what your design will look like in glass.
By the end of the day,
• You will have your final drawn up design
• Your card stencils will be cut out and ready to be replicated in glass…and finally,
• The first few background layers or glass that will need a pre firing of your piece will be ready for firing in the kiln overnight
-
Today we get into the true showcase of the piece.
Cutting techniques and the use of the Taurus Gemini Ringsaw will give these pieces the extra edge.
We will then be adding detailing with glass enamels including airbrush and sgraffito techniques with the added use of stencilling and line detailing.
The outcome for today: All cut and painted glass will be finished and ready for the overnight kiln firing.
-
The final day will start out with some sgraffito practice on glass samples that can be taken away and either used for future reference or converted and fired into pendants.
Once the kilns are opened we can then start to construct. Layering up the individual pieces either with or without frames, we can assemble our creations together.
By the end of the day, everyone will leave with a truly unique piece of art work and some fun samples.

Opal began her career in stained glass techniques, but developed her skills through testing her ideas against traditionalist views, into fusing techniques. Opal uses a broad range of traditional leaded glass craftsmanship, merged with self-taught glass fusing techniques, to design and create intricate and unique fused glass art. Opal’s ever-evolving style is inspired by a wide range of sources, including tattoo, comic, pop art, nature, photography and art in its wider context, and uses techniques such as airbrushing, powder printing, freehand painting, and sgraffito prior to kiln firing, using other materials alongside glass to ensure her creations are truly unique.
Opal’s work is exhibited in galleries across the UK, including the British Glass Biennale 2019 and the Contemporary Glass Society CELESTIAL BODIES exhibition 2019 (winner of the People’s Prize)
