Class Description

Working with encaustic wax is a beautiful way of transforming ordinary photographs into original  and compelling works of art.

This 2-day class will focus on the creation of amazing art works using Encaustic and Photography. There are several ways to incorporate photographs into encaustics including collage of printed images, mounting an image, embedding an image that has been printed on rice or tissue paper and photo transfers.

We will discuss what images work best and why and how the images can be manipulated before and after wax to create unique work that is compelling and ethereal. We will also look at printers, which inks work and why and I will guide you on which papers to choose that will be archival.

We will discuss your images and how to manipulate them easily and you will learn how to print, embed and enhance with encaustic. We will also look at ways of creating large works with photo encaustic.

Please bring either digital or printed photographs that you want to work with. All other materials required are provided and included in the Class Fee.

Some images used to promote this class were created by wonderful students in previous Photo Encaustic classes with Lora.

Many thanks for facilitating the lessons last weekend. Lora is a fantastic art teacher and I really enjoyed the course. You learn a lot in just a few days and she really sets you up for further practice. Lora is really encouraging and inspiring and it was a pleasure to spend the weekend in Mulranny Arts Centre - I will keep a look out for courses in the future and I’m sure I will be back at some point.
