Discover the freedom, beauty and simple pleasure of painting with watercolour in the inspiring surroundings of Mulranny and Clew Bay.

Join accomplished Irish watercolour artist Ronnie Moore for a relaxed and inspiring two-day exploration of watercolour painting.

Known for the soft, misty colours and atmospheric quality of her Irish landscapes, Ronnie brings warmth, enthusiasm and a wonderfully encouraging approach to her teaching. Her philosophy is simple: painting should first and foremost be enjoyed — and anyone can learn to paint.

Over two creative days, Ronnie will guide participants step by step through the techniques she uses to capture the changing skies, seas, mountains and landscapes of the west of Ireland.

Whether you are completely new to watercolour, returning to painting after some time away, or already have experience and would simply like to loosen up and explore another artist’s approach, this workshop offers an opportunity to learn, experiment and enjoy the wonderfully unpredictable nature of watercolour.

What You Will Explore

Watercolour has a magic all of its own. A wash of colour moves across wet paper and gradually a sky begins to emerge; a few carefully placed brushstrokes suggest distant mountains, reflections or a changing sea.

Throughout the workshop, Ronnie will demonstrate her painting process step by step, allowing participants to watch each technique before trying it for themselves.

During the two days you will explore:

• Wet-on-wet techniques for soft skies and atmospheric effects

• Wet-on-dry painting for greater definition and control

• Drybrush techniques for texture and detail

• Colour mixing and creating harmonious palettes

• Salt absorption to create interesting natural textures

• Splattering and scraping techniques

• Composition and developing a successful painting

• Masking fluid, time permitting

Ronnie’s demonstrations are particularly helpful for beginners, while more experienced painters will enjoy seeing how another artist approaches colour, composition and the development of a painting.

The emphasis throughout will be on learning through doing, experimenting with the medium and, most importantly, enjoying the process.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some previous painting experience.

You do not need to arrive knowing how to paint. Ronnie is passionate about helping people discover abilities they may not realise they have and creating an atmosphere where participants feel comfortable experimenting and learning.
