Class Description

In this series of 6 classes you will learn traditional Portuguese tile azulejo decoration techniques, learn how to transfer a design onto a 15cm x 15cm Portuguese tile, and how to use and apply colours effectively and leave with finished pieces and a deeper understanding of Portuguese tile culture.

We will begin with a short introduction to Portuguese tiles azulejos and the painting process. Then you will choose a design from a selection of traditional tile patterns, transfer the design onto a tile and finally paint the tile.


Afterwards the tile will need to be fired which will then be ready for the next class.

Materials are all imported from Portugal.

Eugenia began her creative journey training as a jewellery designer in Dublin working with silver, gold and precious stones and drawn by her curiosity and a love of craftsmanship she later discovered and fell in love with the age-old tradition of Portuguese tile painting azulejos after moving to Lisbon in Portugal. Under the guidance of skilled artisans, Eugenia learned every stage of the process from learning how to transfer designs and hand painting onto the tiles to learning firing in the kiln. Now having returned to Ireland and setting up the Art Of Tiles studio using all traditional materials, she brings this passion and knowledge to Mayo inviting others to experience and connect with the beauty of this timeless tradition.
