Class Description

Set against the wild beauty of the West of Ireland, this immersive mixed media workshop invites participants to slow down, explore materials intuitively, and create a richly layered handmade book filled with texture, colour, and personal narrative.

Beginning with the creation of a unique artist’s book structure, participants will create richly patterned fabrics using Gelli printing on cloth and Tyvek, paint with fluid inks, and incorporate botanical forms inspired by the surrounding landscape. Through layering, mark-making, and experimentation, each book will gradually evolve into a tactile and deeply personal piece of art.

The workshop then moves into slow stitching, hand embroidery, and touches of goldwork, adding depth, detail, and meaning to the pages and surfaces. Found objects, fragments of fabric, and natural materials can also be incorporated, allowing each participant to tell their own visual story through texture and composition.

As the workshop unfolds, the handmade book becomes both an artwork and a keepsake — a sculptural object that holds memory, process, and place within its pages.

Thoughtful, hands-on, and creatively nourishing, this workshop is rooted in material, storytelling, and the rhythm of making in the inspiring surroundings of Mulranny Arts.

About Maggie

Maggie Meister is a mixed media artist whose passion for color, texture and historical design shines through in her work. After a distinguished 30-year career in bead art, she has recently embraced sculpture, needle felting & mixed media printing as new forms of creative expression. Drawing inspiration from ancient mosaics, textiles and architecture, Maggie now explores landscapes through felt, combining fibers with her deep appreciation for pattern and form. Her richly layered approach reflects a lifetime of artistic exploration and we are thrilled to welcome her to lead this lovely workshop.

Maggie’s Website

“ In the year 2000 I visited Mulranny to take a beading workshop.  Little did I know that this visit and meeting Cheryl would open new doors and adventures. Immediately I fell in love with Mulranny with its wild beauty, people and walks.  The views and the landscapes drew me in, and I return often.” - Maggie
